The Lord of Our Rings

This past weekend has been very fruitful for our wedding planning. We met our florist on Thursday evening, had food-tasting on Saturday morning, and spoke to our friend to help us with photography for our wedding just today (Sunday).

But the most unexpected of all, was how God led us to settle on our wedding bands. God was so gracious and I want us to remember God's goodness. You and I just spoke over the phone, and your prayer to God was that we would remember this moment of how he provided for us in such a simple way. You prayed that this would be something we would remember when we grow old, to forget not all His benefits, to remember the God of our youth. Yes, you prayed that.

After the food tasting, our friends who were with us for the food-tasting went on their way and we took a lift from them. We were figuring out where to go when we walked past a common jewellery shop and saw a pair of rings that looked thematically similar to what we wanted our wedding bands to look like. Being particular about the design of our wedding bands, you, more so than me, were reluctant to look at these commonplaces. As I convinced you that this pair was slightly different from others, we walked in and we looked at the whole range of wavy rings.

As we each tried on the many pairs and finally coming to try on each of a pair of asymmetrical rings, you really liked yours and I twisted mine to fit my uniquely-curved custom-made engagement ring. They fit so perfectly such that the lady serving us exclaimed that it was "very perfect", and the guy serving us chimed in. Both the rings off the shelf were our sizes.

God cared for our needs. He provided for us. He was Jehovah Jireh. He did not just leave us to spend the additional thousand at a customised jewellery shop. He saved us money, He saved us time, and He saved us the effort of wandering around, unsure of where we could go to find something that was designed according to our preferences.

In the midst of our busyness working and studying, in the midst of all the familial and emotional difficulties that we have faced in our lives and in planning the wedding, He gave us one more encouragement, to look forward to our wedding and our marriage together. Oh how He poured joy into our hearts amidst such pain!

He proved to be the Lord of the Rings! He proved to be the Lord of Our Rings!

Selah.

Although we couldn't customise these rings much, I hope that the reminder of God's providence and God's love for us would keep Christ in our sight, and keep these rings as significant in our sight.

(I mean I still hope that by God's unique love for us, no one else will have the exact same pair...)
